EXCELLENT Based on 52 reviews Posted on Maria D El Alquimista is an extraordinary new addition to Greenwich and, quite honestly, one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. We visited to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and it has instantly become our new go-to restaurant for special occasions. From start to finish, the experience was flawless. The staff were exceptionally warm, welcoming, and attentive, making the evening feel genuinely special rather than simply well-executed. The meal began with a warming Peruvian broth, full of aroma and flavour, and it immediately set the tone for what was to come. The drinks were equally impressive: we had a glass of Peruvian white and red wine to pair with our meal, both of which were excellent. On the chef’s recommendation, we also tried a locally brewed beer with the ceviche. I’m not usually a ceviche fan, but this dish completely won me over — fresh, vibrant, and perfectly complemented by the unexpected beer pairing. The Lomo Saltado appetizer was outstanding — easily some of the best steak I’ve ever had in a restaurant, and remarkable for an appetizer. It paired beautifully with the Peruvian Tannat. After this, we were served homemade breads with homemade butter, fresh and warm, with incredibly unique flavours. As someone who loves bread, this was truly exceptional. For mains, I had the Bacalao a la Meunière (cod) and my husband chose the Seco de Cordero (lamb cutlets). Every component on both plates was excellent, but the sauces deserve special mention — packed with flavour and unlike anything I’ve had before. The chef has done an amazing job of taking familiar dishes and weaving in Peruvian flavours and flair in a way that feels exciting and memorable. I had never had Peruvian food before this meal, and I’m now completely obsessed. The chef personally came out to explain each dish, which elevated the entire experience even further. The plating was beautiful — refined, thoughtful, and clearly done with great care — and it was obvious how much passion goes into every plate. To top it all off, the team kindly prepared a lactose-free dessert for my husband’s birthday, as all the desserts on the menu (which sounded incredible) contained double cream. This level of thoughtfulness really set El Alquimista apart. If you’re looking for somewhere truly special, whether for a celebration, a date night, or simply an unforgettable meal, this restaurant is an absolute must. We cannot wait to return.Posted on Rosie T Can’t recommend this restaurant enough. We had a fantastic lunch here. The food is beautiful presented, full of flavour & absolutely delicious. The staff were lovely & the chef talked us through each course which was such a nice addition. The food is sourced from local Greenwich shops. I really felt like they went above & beyond (including adding extra chocolate to the dessert after I asked which was the most chocolatey one!). Please do go and support such a wonderful spot.Posted on Giuseppe Caltabiano Amazing new discovery yesterday in Greenwich. Last night we had the absolute pleasure of dining at El Alquimista in Greenwich and it was one of those places you leave already planning your return. The food was exceptional from start to finish, perfectly paired with wines that genuinely elevated each dish. The atmosphere is very cozy and relaxed, the kind of place where you instantly feel comfortable and welcome. What really made the evening special, though, was the people. We met the chef, Walter, and his sister Natalie, who run the restaurant with warmth and passion. Walter came to our table several times, explaining the dishes, the wine choices, and sharing the history of Pisco and other Peruvian ingredients and drinks. Great service, outstanding food, great pairings, and a genuine sense of hospitality. An amazing place, and a real gem in Greenwich. Highly recommended. Oh and it’s dog friendly! We brought Eddie, our retriever.Posted on Phoebe Louise Pryor Food was brilliant, the flavours in each course were unique and the food was well presented. Portion sizes great too. The service was very friendly, with the chef also explaining the dishes to us. The decor and atmosphere was also lovely.Posted on Elisa Morlock What a beautiful experience! The food was of the highest quality, fresh and absolutely delicious. The staff was beyond welcoming and friendly, offering several complementaries on the house and catering to dietary restrictions. A very authentic place with soul and really good food - will definitely come back soon! Would highly recommend the lamb.Posted on Louise Deniz A beautiful restaurant, with incredible food and truly lovely people running it. The care and attention to detail was incredible! I will definitely be back - thank you!Posted on Ghenmary Pazos Wonderful setting, food and family. Great place to eat and drink and will definitely return.Posted on Cindy Au This restaurant completely exceeded my expectations. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were attentive without being intrusive. The food was outstanding — every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. You can really tell that care and quality go into the ingredients and preparation.Posted on Rita Thomas A fabulous evening with stunning modern takes on Peruvian food. The complementary amuse bouche and breads were incredible, exquisite Ceviche and a modern take on Lomo Saltado. The chef came out to introduce his dishes, which was a pleasant surprise. This is a hidden gem in Greenwich. Will definitely be back again.
